Morillo symphony Chromatic

The symphony is the earliest example of a ‘wheel-bowed' instrument, the best known of which is the hurdy gurdy. Like the hurdy gurdy it is played by turning a rosined wheel but the symphony's wheel is much smaller as it is totally enclosed within the rectangular body of the instrument. The body also acts as the tangent box and houses the soundboard and strings making it an extremely compact instrument.

Excellent range of symphonies from the worskhops of Morillo-Dolcini.
Two models are available, a chromatic symphony and a diatonic symphony.
Please ring to discuss availability and prices.

Scarlatti Accordions, Melodeons and Concertinas are made in China. They have good reeds, and the instruments are excellent value, although they are not finished to the standards of European makers. The Scarlatti range is ideal for beginners, and they are priced very attractively to enable you to take a chance and see if the instrument is for you. Although they are a beginner's instrument, they are of a much higher quality than the Chinese Accordions, melodeons and concertinas of the past, and will keep you going for some time!

Hurdy Gurdy Morillo | Stock Code: bmi89

Morillo Henry III hurdy gurdy
The hurdy gurdy is essentially a mechanical fiddle. It is played by turning a rosined wheel against strings which causes them to vibrate whilst notes are produced by depressing keys which stop the strings at different positions. The hurdy gurdy has a long history and is still a living tradition in parts of Europe, particularly France.

One of the most popular hurdy gurdies of the 16th century was the rustic or Henry III pattern and this hurdy gurdy is a copy of an original. It has 6 strings comprising 2 melodic chanterelles in g', gross bourdon in G, petit bourdon in d, mouche in g and a trompette in d', and is fully chromatic over a range of one and a half octaves.
